Revolutionary, new Halo™ Radar wins DAME technology category design awards, METS 2015

November 17, 2015
World’s first recreational solid-state, open-array radar with Pulse Compression technology A TRUE WINNING COMBINATION
We are proud to announce Simrad  HALO™ Pulse Compression Radar range, the world’s first high-performance recreational solid-state, open-array radar system with pulse compression technology has won the prestigious 2015 DAME Technology Category Award. Delivering the key benefit of radar from 20ft to 72NM.
“We are very excited that Halo Radar has won such a prestigious award, especially on the DAME’s 25th anniversary of the competition.” said Leif Ottosson, Navico CEO adding, “This is an important recognition to the hard work by our engineering teams to get this state-of-the-art radar system into the marketplace. It demonstrates our ability to lead the marine technology industry with innovative and specialised marine products for both recreational and commercial use.”
Simrad’s Halo combines the advantages of Broadband Radar™  and traditional pulse radar systems, providing navigational visibility and awareness as close as 20ft (6m) within  the pulse radar’s short-range “blind spot,” where once only Broadband Radar could operate, all while offering exceptional long-range performance up to 72 nautical miles.
With Beam Sharpening for enhanced target separation control, HALO provides unmatched target resolution. Using its Dual Range mode, HALO can also function as two radars in one with no signal loss, monitoring two distance ranges simultaneously with independent display controls. Simple to use custom Harbour, Offshore, Weather and Bird (to help spot fish) modes, tune HALO’s advanced signal processing to ensure targets are seen vividly, even in the toughest environments. This Dual Range mode means dual MARPA target tracking where up to 20 targets can be tracked displaying the closest point of approach and time to closest point of approach.
Unlike traditional pulse radars, HALO does not rely on a high-powered magnetron or vacuum tube to transmit a signal, the solid state technology produces a crystal-clear accurate radar image instantly from standby or in 16-25 seconds from power-up. HALO is safe to use and already meets upcoming Low Emission Standards and with its low power consumption, support for 12/24volt systems and availability in 3, 4 and 6ft open arrays, making HALO ideal for small to mid-sized powerboats. HALO Radar connects to existing Simrad NSS evo2/NSO evo2 multifunction displays.

StructureScan® 3D - A New Dimension in Sonar

July 15, 2015
Electronics Leader Enhances Displays with Three-Dimensional Underwater Views
Tulsa, Okla. – Simrad® StructureScan® 3D was announced today, giving boaters and fishermen a unique three-dimensional underwater view of the ocean floor, its structures and fish suspended in the water.
Simrad StructureScan 3D allows boaters to easily see fish, underwater structure and bottom contours in a stunning three-dimensional display on their NSS and NSo evo2 navigational systems. StructureScan 3D imaging quickly scans underwater terrain to create high-resolution, 180-degree super-wide, three-dimensional views – in depths to 300 feet and as far as 600 feet port and starboard. Yielding captivating images with unprecedented detail, StructureScan 3D gives cruisers and offshore anglers a better understanding of where fish, bottom contours and structure are located in relation to their boat. The true-to-life 3D scans are viewed on the Simrad NSS and NSO evo2 display, when used in combination with the SideScan 3D Skimmer® transducer and StructureScan 3D module – making the NSS and NSO evo2 the ultimate fishfinder.
StructureScan 3D sonar provides multiple viewing options including boosted DownScan Imaging™, even more detailed StructureScan HD and the new revolutionary three-dimensional views. Using virtual point-of-view angles or ScanTrack™ pan-tilt-rotate control, anglers can combine custom HD and 3D views to increase situational awareness and search fishing areas as never before.
In addition to outstanding crystal-clear imaging, StructureScan 3D has exclusive features that make finding fish even easier including:
Leading Edge™ scanning reference provides a clear graphical illustration of the sonar beams as they intersect with the bottom contours and gives the angler a better sense of target depth.
SelectScan™ water column target coloring automatically shades fish-holding cover and suspended targets in a color that contrasts the selected color palette, making target identification quicker and easier than ever before.
Vertical Depth Enhancement provides emphasis to vertical drops and crucial depth contour changes making them easier to identify relative to the surrounding underwater terrain.
3D Waypoint Overlay makes it easy to revisit fishing areas, structure and other underwater sweet spots. Use the waypoint keypad to save a waypoint at the boat location or switch to cursor mode and save a waypoint over specific targets, baitfish schools or cover.
“With StructureScan 3D, boaters can search for fish and underwater structure like never before,” said Leif Ottosson, CEO and president, Navico. “With the addition of StructureScan 3D to our NSS and NSO evo2 range, we will change the way people use their multifunction displays. Giving offshore anglers a unique three-dimensional view of fish, structure and bottom contours maximizes their time on the water. With the remarkably clear views boaters can also easily identify diveable wrecks and ideal anchorages.”
StructureScan 3D is scheduled for availability on or before December 2015.

Striker Series from Garmin

STRIKER™ 7sv

CHIRP Fishfinder with DownVü/SideVü Scanning Sonar

  • Easy-to-use 7-inch color fishfinder with built-in, high-sensitivity GPS and CHIRP sonar, including Garmin CHIRP DownVü™ and Garmin CHIRP SideVü™ scanning sonars
  • Find fish; mark and return to hot spots, docks and ramps
  • Includes Garmin GT52 transducer with high wide CHIRP 250 W, 455/800 kHz CHIRP DownVü and CHIRP SideVü with 500 W power
  • Share waypoints and routes with other STRIKER or echoMAP™ chartplotter combos
  • Smooth Scaling™ software technology for depth range adjustments
Finding fish is easier than ever with STRIKER 7sv fishfinder. Mark and return to your hot spots, boat ramps and docks. You also can share your favorite waypoints and routes with other STRIKER and echoMAP combos. Smooth Scaling graphics provide uninterrupted imagery when switching between depth-range scales. Sonar history rewind allows you to scroll back through sonar images to mark waypoints you originally may have missed. Plus, it has a built-in flasher and displays speed data. Includes tilt/swivel mount plus transom and trolling motor mounting hardware and cable.

Experience the Clarity of CHIRP

STRIKER 7sv includes a Garmin high wide CHIRP transducer, which provides a visibly higher level of clarity and detail for fish and structure than traditional 77/200 kHz transducers.
Instead of sending just 1 single frequency, CHIRP sends a continuous sweep of frequencies, ranging from low to high, then interprets them individually upon their return. Since the frequencies provide a wider range of information, CHIRP sonar technology can create crisper fish arches with greater target separation.
You also can upgrade to high-performance Garmin CHIRP technology, which provides crystal-clear sonar images with even more remarkable target separation and resolution from shallow to deeper depths. For better fishing, bottom contours are more visible, even at higher speeds, and signal noise can be suppressed at greater depths to provide a more timely interpretation of what’s below.

Clearest Scanning Sonar on the Water

Garmin DownVü scanning sonar gives you a nearly photographic image of what passes 750 feet below your boat. Garmin SideVü scanning sonar gives you a crisp, clear view of what lies up to 750 feet off to each side of your boat. You clearly see structure, submerged objects and fish. High wide CHIRP sonar and both DownVü and SideVü scanning sonars are combined into 1 transducer. Also provides support for Minn Kota® and MotorGuide® trolling motors with integrated transducers.

Mark Spots with High-sensitivity GPS

Unlike regular fishfinders, STRIKER fishfinders have built-in, high-sensitivity GPS to locate your current position quickly and precisely, then maintain your GPS location anywhere you go on the lake. More importantly, they allow you to mark spots where the fish are biting so you can return to them again in the future. You also can mark docks, boat ramps and other locations on the lake. Just follow the path created on your screen to return to them whenever you wish.

Navigate Easily with Waypoint Map

Since the STRIKER fishfinder series includes high-sensitivity GPS, you can see your position in relation to waypoints you have marked. Use the waypoint map to easily view, mark and navigate to locations such as brush piles, stumps and docks. It’s also a great tool for finding your way back to the boat ramp.
